October Updates

Wow… looking at this list and the sidebar of word counts, I realize… I am so behind on updating everyone on news!!! So here it goes.

  • √  Artistic License – Ready to order and don’t miss my extra freebies pack! Podnovel version coming soon! 🙂
  • Vampire short story, anthology was cancelled — grrr! Am looking for a new market for this.
  • √  “Haunted Item” short story is awesome — submitted to new market, waiting for answer.
  • √  GothHaus 3, The Gothmazing Race – COMPLETED! Last episode will air on #84… incidentally our season finale, so that means I get a little time off and then time to finish up all these loose ends.
    • Undecided, the 4th book in the Sweet Dreams Series is completed!  I need to have time at the computer to put it in so I can podcast later this year.
    • I am also reading, One More Try, the 5th book in the Sweet Dreams Series. It is needing some adjustments because of the way Undecided ended up, but because I have basically the whole book written, it should be fast going. I would estimate I am about 6 Chapters in.
    • Dusk Warriors, the vampire sequel to Night’s Knights is still going on podcast. Almost done. I estimate 1-2 casts left to wrap that puppy up!
  • Horror Disaster Anthology is coming along nicely. We are in the formatting stage and the target of late 2012 seems to be pretty right on.
  • o.o I forgot about this story! I wonder where it is!? “This is a Demons do Bad Things on Halloween story. Challenging myself to stay under 1000 words. Can I do it?”
  • Gorey flash fiction piece. Challenging myself to 500 words only. Can I do it? I’m about 200 words in. Choosing words very carefully.
  •  √  Wrote a 100 word story for’s 100 word story episode. And I did write about a bird… “I am sort of digging birds right now. Black shiny ones that can peck out your eyes and get caught in your hair.” But not like you might think. Listen to #82 to hear this.
  • I’m starting a couple new projects with my friend H. E. Roulo. Too soon to talk about one. The other… well, it’s soon too, but let’s just say it’s going ot be for your Kindle and boy are you going to get excited when I tell you about it!

For all of you into the word count thing, I’ve updated my list to the left!
Happy reading!

AL Project ~ The Math

I’ve just spent four days working birth, death, and time period math. Not fun. Especially when I despise math!

Word to the wise. When setting up a story, set out all the time frames and player’s lives before you begin… or at least shortly after you begin. I have found this many times with my writing. When I was a beginning writer, I just wrote characters… I knew who they were and where they were going and a little about where they came from.  Unfortunately, if your character becomes the star of an unexpected series, you will need to have their back stories well in hand.

For Night’s Knights, this presented a problem when I was recently asked how a certain character, Sandro, became a vampire and what his maker was like. You see, I thought I was smart. I mapped out the vampire family tree before I finished the book. I had names and thought a little about their backgrounds. What I didn’t think about was time periods, what was happening in the world at the time and how a 4th generation vampire came from the spawn of Satan even though that spawn of Satan had been in human form while that 4th generation vampire was still a mortal. Yeah… figure THAT one out!

Boy, did that one take awhile to figure out. Sure, it made for an excellent plot twist, but trying to retrace your steps and make all the dots connect sucks!

I recently ran into this same problem with the AL project. Without giving too much away, this story takes place in 1912, briefly in 1978, and in 2011 (or present day). When I began the tale, I just figured the magic in the tale would take care of itself, but recently I’ve realized, it doesn’t. And backtracking ain’t fun guys and gals. So do your math first… sketch your characters out (even if you have them in your head), and know when they were born, how old they are, when they died, and who their parents were before you cement your tale. Especially if it’s a sort of multiple time period piece… otherwise you’ll spend four days working out the math and may realize your dates and characters are off! Needless to say…. changes must be made!

Maybe one day I will share my genius charrie book format with you. o.o

Dusk’s Warriors– An Update

So you know how I was sure I’d finish Night’s Knights II the beginning of 2010 and have it podcast by summer? Not happening. I was all done… had it sewn all up and then I realized… It was too clean. Too pretty. Too nice and tidy. Forget that! There needs to be a mess and by mess I mean… knock out, drag out, mess everyone up, kick everyone’s butt… scar charries for life kinda fight. Jespa started it. Did you expect anything less?

Tonight’s all about DW. Editing, rewriting, and getting some of these messy chapters sewn up just a little. Not all the way… but so you can see a little stitching and a lot of puss-filled goodness. 🙂
